Jacob Kendall Hey Class, Community volunteering in general is something i really love doing. It makes me feel very wholesome and just a overall better person. Some of the volunteering i have done lately was every weekend i go to one of the close Fish and wildlife preserves and help maintain the nature trail. With Guam being a place where, we try to keep track of its history, and try to clean the nature that is around us. With taking care of the nature trail, i am also picking up trash that could possibly pollute the surround beach and reefs. I do this because i am also a Scuba Instructor and diving around the reef is also my office. I need to maintain clean waters and also educate other of why it’s just so important that there is no pollution in the ocean. Doing this I am supporting the native people who live here, the local fisherman and also the local people who get food from the ocean and jungles. The preserve I volunteer at is called Ritidian and as you can see on Google its very pretty, and very nice in resources, because it is in the north of the island, a lot of the water comes from here to the rest of the island. Out of Volunteering here, I met many people, got to learn much about the water and a lot of history. The Social Care issue I choose is Animals – Rescue, Elder support while ill, Senior animals. I choose this issue because in Guam there is a HUGE homeless dog problem. People use to just leave there pets here when they left and they just started breeding, and now there are homeless dogs everywhere. Off of Google there are multiple animal rescue websites. It is important to understand this is a major issue because when animals are left behind, they can cause a huge problem. These dogs are animals, and in certain circumstances they can become very dangerous. The Island of Guam has set up multiple organizations in trying to deal with this problem, however the funding and need for it keeps on getting large. However, it’s not only on Guam where this is an issue. all over the United States and the rest of the world people are constantly moving pets, per personal issues, and having to deal with aniamls which just arent safe to keep.
