Discussion 9 – Data Collection in an Age of Distance Learning
Unfortunately, we do not know how long social distancing, masks,
closed schools, etc. will last. As future researchers, you must be prepared for
challenges that may arise in your data collection. In the past, after receiving
proper clearance, you may have sat down with a group of students to ask
questions, fill out a survey, etc. However, in an age of distance learning,
these approaches may not be wise, allowed, or legal. Use the following
questions to guide your initial response:
Based on your chosen topic, method, etc. how do you
plan to potentially revise how you would collect data?
What other data collection obstacles may arise in the
future that could change the way you do your study/research?
How would you protect participant
confidentiality/anonymity when collecting data through WebEx, Zoom, etc.?
